Our Story
Cancer Sucks . Art Heals
About Kids & Art
The Kids & Art Foundation was founded in 2008 by Purvi Shah, a parent whose son Amaey was diagnosed with cancer at age three and then lost his life six years later. Purvi’s inspiration came after seeing the healing impact moments of art and creativity had on her family while her son was in cancer treatment.
Since, Kids & Art programs have grown from one destination workshop for 15 pediatric cancer patients in 2008 to now offering art programs for countless children and families across the country. These engaging art experiences provide children in treatment a unique opportunity to step away from their limitations and therapies to enjoy the freedom and benefits of creative escape and self-expression.

Kids & Art uses the power of the arts and creativity to mitigate stress, anxiety, and trauma induced from diagnosis and treatment of pediatric cancer and other critical medical conditions.
Our vision is for an integrated care model where participation in the arts is part of a regular treatment plan for all critically ill pediatric patients.

Why we say “Cancer Sucks. Art Heals.”
Founder and CEO, Purvi Shah
Although the pain of losing Amaey is as fierce and difficult today as it was on his last day, I find comfort knowing that because of Amaey’s journey, thousands of other children and families facing childhood cancer have been supported and cared for through our work, and the support of our generous donors.
The Kids & Art Foundation is Amaey’s legacy and I’m very proud to be able to honor his life by spreading joy and healing through the arts.

Parent of a pediatric cancer survivor
Kids & Art presents wonderful programs for children affected by cancer. There's a way that cancer attacks the whole family. Our children suffered through cancer: one got the treatments, the other became isolated. At workshops they were able to work with artists to express themselves wordlessly and respond from their hearts. The whole experience was very empowering and healing. Thank you so much for creating this place for kids affected by cancer to shape their world.
