2023 – Ivy Ross and Susan Magsaman

In 2023, our first Amaeyzing Visionary Award goes to co-authors Ivy Ross (VP Hardware Design, Google) and Susan Magsamen (Executive Director, International Arts + Mind Lab, John Hopkins University) for their groundbreaking book, “Your Brain on Art: How the Arts Transform Us,” and their work with NeuroArts Blueprint. Ivy and Susan work at the crossroads of arts and sciences, sharing and using the growing body of evidence — from neuroscience, psychology, public health, social sciences, the arts and other fields — that are proving the arts’ generative impact. Their book is an authoritative guide to the new science of neuroaesthetics, weaving a vibrant tapestry of breakthrough research, insights from multidisciplinary pioneers, and compelling stories from people who are using the arts to make a positive impact. Their work is a call-to-arms for the radical integration of the arts with science and technology to design a more humane future. It powerfully aligns with Kids & Art’s mission to ensure that art is included as a prescriptive modality in a patient’s treatment and healing journey.
